The School of Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) offers staff expertise and well-equipped laboratory facilities across a wide range of SME-oriented disciplines, extending from environmental audits to new food recipe design. Expertise includes combining experimental data with theoretical modelling in understanding the complex behaviour of the sustainability of natural, agricultural and urban environments. Abertay is a partner in the Scottish Biofuel Programme researching renewable energy technologies, while SET’s Urban Water Technology Centre provides physical, chemical and biological testing services for sewer systems and treatment plant operation and design. SET’s Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) for managing storm-water flows and surface run-off are operated throughout Scotland. SET also runs the Food Innovation@Abertay initiative providing the Scottish food and drink industry with expertise in food processing, product analysis, new product development and consumer research, and a yeast research group that supports the Scottish brewing and distilling industries.
